Maybe skiing and winter sports are not your thing, but you still love fairytale winter landscapes set amid snow-capped mountains? If so, we can offer you a great outlook: walkers can travel up to the Brienzer Rothorn – Lucerne’s highest peak –, the Rossweid nature paradise or the sunny Marbachegg for a special rate throughout the winter.

Even the cable car ride from the valley to the Brienzer Rothorn at 2,350 metres above sea level is something spectacular. Arriving at the summit is enough to leave most visitors speechless. The view to the north sweeps across the Waldemmen valley; when the air is clear, it reaches the Napf and the lakes beyond, sometimes extending as far as the Black Forest. Looking in the other direction, the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz and the snow-covered Bernese Alps – with the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and 690 other peaks – are enough to take the breath away. When the weather is fine, guests can drink in this uniquely panoramic aspect from the spacious sun terrace, or from the large front-facing windows of the Rothorn summit restaurant. When snow conditions on the roof terrace allow, snap a souvenir photo on the Steinbock swing chair against the captivating background before taking the cable car back to Sörenberg.

The views awaiting visitors to the Marbachegg are also fabulous. The ride aboard the Bretzeli cable car from Marbach is leisurely, offering visitors time to watch the children’s lift and the skiers on the slopes – and a surprise awaits those arriving at the top. Few expect the sight from the Marbachegg to be so sensational, extending across the High Bernese Alps with the Schreckhorn, Finsteraarhorn and Eiger to the Schibegütsch and Hohgant on the horizon beyond. From the sun terrace of Marbachegg and the Berggasthaus Marbachegg, the views of the famous Schrattenfluh and the Bernese Alps are nothing short of spectacular. Those who are still ready for some exercise in the snow can take a short circular walk on the Marbachegg.
