Communities and holiday spots

The Biosphere Entlebuch includes the main 395-square-kilometre valley of the Kleine Emme River between Bern and Lucerne. With 17,000 inhabitants, the region is often dubbed the «biggest book (‘Buch’) in the world» or the «wild west of Lucerne». An historically charged regional affinity is deeply embedded among the local population. In the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, collaboration means a joint and ongoing process of searching, learning and structuring, thereby creating opportunities for current and future generations.

There is much to explore in the various villages of the biosphere. Take our tour of discovery, and be inspired.
