The 2030 Agenda for sustainable development as drawn up by the United Nations in 2015 is a plan of action for people and the planet. At its heart are the 17 international Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are aimed at governments, companies and regions like Entlebuch. We take the 17 goals seriously, and have incorporated them into our three strategic targets:
-
Preserving the diversity of nature and culture.
-
Promoting a strong and innovative regional economy.
-
Facing the future together as a region – and an organisation – capable of learning.
All UNESCO biospheres are model sustainable development regions. In 2011, UNESCO declared us a model biosphere for the world – a great honour, and a great responsibility too. As a region, we implement our sustainability goals alongside the people who live here. After all, each of us individually can play a part in working towards an equitable future.
Sustainable development is an ongoing process of searching, learning and shaping. We want to open up experiences for all. At the moment, for example, we are working with Denk an mich and MountOn. For a small selection of inclusive, barrier-free public excursions and courses, click here.
Our office is currently classified as Level III – leading under the Swisstainable sustainability programme. As an international model region for sustainable development, we are recognised as a destination at the highest possible level (Swisstainable destination Level III – leading).
