The hilly landscape with its lush green meadows and pleasantly shady forests can be seen from various angles around the village of Escholzmatt. You can't help but notice the rounded hills in the valley and wonder how they could have been formed.

A three-hour, well-signposted circular trail gives visitors an insight into the geology and geomorphology of the area. Along the way, four information boards explain the folding of the Alps, the geology, the molasse, the ice ages and the landscape forms. The trail can also be walked in various stages. Starting from Escholzmatt railroad station, it leads over round humps, through a meltwater channel, over a plateau and provides insights into the landscape around Escholzmatt, which was shaped by the glaciers and rivers.
