Escholzmatt-Marbach has been known for decades as a renowned cross-country skiing arena. The medal win by Marbach native Sepp Haas at the Grenoble 1968 Olympic Games triggered a real cross-country skiing boom, and the beautiful cross-country skiing area Escholzmatt-Marbach became known throughout Switzerland within days.

Discover a total of 50 km of trails in classic and skating styles on the Marbach-Escholzmatt-Bumbach trail network, and enjoy the incomparable view. The trail from Marbach to Wald runs along the valley floor through varied terrain. With ascents and descents, this trail is suitable for advanced and professional skiers.

The UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch is located in the heart of Switzerland, centrally between Bern and Lucerne. You can reach Marbach via main road 10 towards Wiggen (Escholzmatt) and from there to Marbach. From Thun, you reach Marbach via Schallenberg.

A free parking lot is available in the village or at the Marbachegg ski lifts.

You can reach Marbach by public transport via Escholzmatt (Bern-Lucerne railway line). From Escholzmatt, take the PostAuto to Marbach "valley station." With all cross-country ski passes and tickets, you can travel free on the PostAuto route Escholzmatt–Kemmeriboden during the winter season.

With all passes and tickets for the cross-country ski trail, you can travel free of charge during the winter season on the PostAuto route Escholzmatt-Kemmeriboden! There are 15 PostAuto stops along the trail.

Safety guidelines

  • Use only the marked trail and observe the signposts.
  • Be considerate towards other trail users and the landscape.
  • Carry additional sun protection. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, especially in winter, even in cloudy weather.
  • Weather conditions in the mountains can change very rapidly and without warning. Appropriate clothing is very important.
