On the two-day ridge walk "Steinbock Trek" in Sörenberg, you will find not only fantastic views but, with some luck, also animal encounters with ibex, golden eagle, and more.

Steep rocks, rugged ridges, scree slopes, and rock-strewn alpine pastures – in Sörenberg, the two-day "Steinbock Trek" leads through beautiful natural landscapes to the survivors of the high mountains and offers warm hospitality. After a completed ascent on the first day and a restful night in Berghaus Eisee, follows the scenic second stage via Eiseesattel, Arnihaaggen to Glaubenbielen and from there back to Sörenberg.

After a hearty breakfast, follow the signposts to the Eiseesattel and can watch from there how the morning fresh milk floats from the Alp over the heads down to the cheese dairy. In the steep scree slopes, ibex females are often on the move. The path continues to Arnihaaggen, which – after a short ascent – is already history again. On the descent, you cross interesting slate structures. The beautiful panoramic view of the Bernese Alps and the view of the turquoise blue Lake Brienz is visible up to the Steinmanndli figure shortly before Berghaus Schönbüel. Via Schönbüel, Fontanen, and Jänzimatt it now goes back to Sörenberg. Alternatively, from Glaubenbielen Pass, the PostBus also runs back to Sörenberg, but be careful, there are only few per day.

Please note the following behavior tips:

  • Photograph and observe animals only from a safe distance
  • Avoid noise, smoke and other disturbing smells
  • Never leave trash in nature, besides environmental damage wastes can be deadly traps for animals
  • Do not leave the marked paths
  • Respect the signposts

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Between Arnihaaggen and Höch Gumme you have a fantastic view of Lake Brienz and the Swiss Alps. At Glaubenbielen, you encounter a eerily beautiful moorland - especially beautiful in autumn!
